Ducks

Waterfowl are extraordinary birds to add to your farm flock. Ducks make excellent pets and are easy to raise. We offer eleven varieties of ducks for you to choose from. We hatch Pekin, Rouen, Khaki Campbell, Cayuga, Buff, Blue Swedish, Indian Runner, Chocolate Runner, Golden 300, Welsh Harlequin and Wild Mallards. All of our ducks, except for the Mallard, are domesticated, ie. they don't fly.



Ducks


White Pekin

PEK
Pekins are originally from China and have been bred for rapid growth, hardiness and meat production. They are very calm and hardy breed.

Rouen

ROU
Rouens (pronounced ruins) are originally from France and, as you can see, closely resemble the wild Mallard but do not fly. Some gourmets prefer their meat over all other ducks. They are moderate layers, laying mostly greenish shelled eggs.

Khaki Campbell Duck

KAKI
Khaki Campbells excel at egg production. They often produce over 275 eggs per season. They are also excellent foragers and will sit on and hatch their own eggs.

Cayuga Duck

Cayugas are one of the few native ducks of North America. They are a hardy and quiet breed. Often they will lay eggs that are black or gray.

Blue Swedish Duck

BL SWED
Blue Swedish ducks are originally from Germany and are active foragers. Blue birds do not breed true. If you breed a Blue Swedish with another Blue Swedish, only 50% will hatch blue. 25 % will hatch black and 25% light gray , making them very interesting to watch for those intrigued with genetics.

Indian Runner

RUNN
Runners are from the orient where they are used to clean up the rice fields of rice waste, weeds and bugs. Along with their excellent foraging capabilities, they are also are excellent layers. Their slender, upright stance makes them very mobile and fun to watch them “run”.

Chocolate Runner

CRUN
Chocolate Runner ducks were originally bred in Southeast Asia for high egg production and excellent mobility. Runners are from the orient where they are used to clean up the rice fields of waste, weeds and bugs; they are excellent foragers. Their slender, upright stance makes them very mobile and fun to watch "run".

Golden 300 Hybrid

GOLD
Golden 300 Hybrid ducks are known for their ability to lay large eggs and have a very high fertility rate. They are a very calm bird and one of the best egg laying ducks. As adults the females range in color from a very light brown to a very dark brown, often with areas of white on them. Males can appear much like a Rouen or a dull colored Cayuga with white and dark markings.

Welsh Harlequin Duck

The Welsh were originally bred from two off colored Khaki Campbells. They are a very diversified bird: Being an excellent egg producer, forager and also dress out nicely. They have a calm personality and will sit and hatch a clutch of eggs.

Mallard

MALL
The Mallard is the breed from which all domestic ducks, except the Muscovy, originate. They can fly very well and can consistently hatch and raise a brood of ducklings. They are prized because of their delicate flavor. It takes 14-16 weeks for the males head to turn green.
